Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) spoke strongly as she called for President Biden, VP Harris, and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to be impeached due to the tragic exit from Afghanistan.
Boebert spoke at the press conference alongside fellow House Freedom Caucus members demanding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) call Congress to return from recess to vote on impeachment and resignation resolutions.
“It is time for action,” Boebert said. “Impeach Biden, impeach Kamala Harris, and throw in the secretary of state if you can get him back from vacation,” she added about the Washington Post timeline that revealed Blinken was away at the Hamptons the Friday before Afghanistan’s government collapsed.
Last week, Reps Andy Harris (R-MD) and Ralph Norman (R-SC) introduced articles of impeachment against Blinken for his role in the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from Afghanistan, which was complete Monday, only days after the deadly terrorist bombing outside the Kabul airport.
Last Thursday, outside the airport, two suicide bombers killed 13 U.S. service members, including more than 100 people, and many others were injured, according to Tolonews, an Afghanistan outlet. The explosions followed reports of tense and violent encounters outside the airport with the Taliban, the terrorist group that took over the Afghanistan government less than two weeks prior.
Harris and Norman’s impeachment resolution argued that Blinken ignored warning from July 13, reported by the Wall Street Journal, that the U.S. should begin evacuations flights sooner than planned amid the Taliban gaining strength in Afghanistan and several other charges.
Boebert evoked the message of now-Gold Star father Steve Nikoui in her remarks on Tuesday. Nikoui, a carpenter from California whose son Lance Cpl. Kareem Kikoui was killed in the attack last week. Nikoui stated the U.S. evacuation scene he saw unfolding where his son was serving in the Kabul airport appeared “chaotic” and “not really planned out” on Friday to Tucker Carlson from Fox News. In an interview with the Daily Beast, the grieving father said that “Biden turned his back on” Kareem.
“The father of one of our fallen soldiers said, ‘Hey, I’m just a carpenter, and even I can figure out how horrible this exit strategy was,’” Boebert said. “We all know that we needed to leave Afghanistan, and we all see how failed this mission was. He’s right, and you know it. His son did not deserve to die.”
Along with the impeachment resolution against Blinken, Republicans reduced resolutions calling for resignations from Biden, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and chair of the Joints Cheifs of Staff Gen. Mark Miley.
The Freedom Caucus members also called on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to file a motion to remove Pelosi as speaker or “vacate the chair,” assuming the demand is not met by Pelosi to call Congress back early to vote on the proposed impeachment and resignation resolutions.
