Trump is presently undergoing trial in New York over Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s 34-count indictment, which accuses the former president and his legal team of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 hush money payment to former porn actress Stormy Daniels. He is currently facing three separate criminal indictments related to the mishandling of classified documents and an alleged attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.
The Supreme Court recently heard oral arguments regarding Trump’s assertion that he should be granted “absolute immunity” for official actions taken during his time in office. If the nine justices rule in his favor, the charges brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith will be dismissed. As of April 15 to 17, Biden is leading Trump in New York by 47% to 37%, according to FiveThirtyEight. Nationally, Trump holds a slight lead over Biden by 0.4 points.
In key battleground states such as North Carolina, Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, the former president is leading Biden by 49% to 43%, as per a Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll. The survey also revealed that a majority of swing state voters have a negative view of the economy and believe Trump is better equipped to handle it, giving him a 16-point lead on the economy question.
A survey conducted by the Wall Street Journal on Apr. 3 showed Trump leading Biden by 20 points on various issues including the economy, immigration, “mental and physical fitness,” and inflation. Additionally, more voters trusted Trump over Biden to manage the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, while Biden had a 12-point advantage over the former president on the topic of abortion.
